Small houseboats are not known for their contemporary design. In this series, we are going to highlight a few exceptions that will change your mind on how modern a small houseboat designs can look.
In this first article of the series, we are looking at a project called Silberfisch from Germany. It is a 431 sq ft space designed by Flo Florian and Sascha Akkermann of Confused-Direction, the main motivation is to make the entire houseboat look slick and modern. This has been achieved with its use of white color, glazed windows and metallic exterior.

The Silberfisch has two floors, with the second floor being the master bedroom. Outside of the main house, there is front pouch and a roof that adds a sense of additional space to the entire houseboat.

The living room is infused with a pure modern design. Contemporry shelves and kitchen ware lined the walls to free up the center space and create a sense of openness. The curvry sofa adds to the contemporary style of the home.
The clever use of the height can be see by the bedroom which is located at the second storey. A simple staircase leads to the sleeping are with minimal fuss.

This is another view of the small living area. It shows how the kitchen has been laid out to minimize soace usage. The toilet is found at the back of the room to leave more space in this part of the home.

The roof deck creates a different space from the living room. This infuse a different environment and creates variety for the home owners.
